Redskins Training Camp in Richmond Close to Final
Last week the Richmond City Council accepted amendments to the development agreement regarding the future site of the Redskins summer training camp facility. As we’ve discussed earlier, the project will be located on state-owned property behind the Science Museum of Virginia. The amended version of the deal is the final piece of legislation required to begin construction, which some have predicted could be set in motion as early as next week. (more…)
Arlington Construction Strong But Facing Growing Competition
Earlier this month Arlington County released its annual report which outlined construction plans that have been approved by the county. The majority of construction projects are still waiting to break ground. According to the report, 5.3 million square feet of office space, 836,543 square feet of retail space, and 7,572 residential units have been approved but are still awaiting construction. By September 30 of this year, approximately 1 million square feet of office space, 150,000 square feet of retail space, and 1,380 residential units were in active construction. (more…)
Two Projects in Northern Virginia
A luxury residential, golf and retail community is coming to Prince William County after developer SunCal opens the Potomac Shores Golf Course in the summer of next year. The golf course will herald a long-term development to include a little less than 4,000 single-family houses, a town center with 3.7 million square feet of retail space and a marina large enough for 450 watercraft. The project sits on 2,000 acres 30 miles outside of D.C and will also feature walking paths and green space for recreation. The homes will begin at $400,000, and SunCal hopes to attract a variety of buyers like retirees and singles. Development is planned over 10 years. (more…)
Lots of Buzz but Few Details on New Norfolk Conference Center
In 2003, Norfolk’s City Council approved a hotel and restaurant tax increase on consumers in order to fund a conference center or basketball arena. In 2005, Council approved plans for a midsize conference facility and accompanying hotel. However, several deals with developers and other partners fell through. (more…)
